I have learned that effective communication and patient education are important aspects of a dental hygienist's role. This includes explaining risk factors, the progression of periodontal disease and caries, providing strategies for proper home care and preventive procedures, explaining steps in treatment plan, motivating patients to maintain adequate home care and actively participate as co-therapists in their treatment.
